We Are Still Young

It's the third of the month
we forgot to pay the rent
I hurried up and mailed it but
forgot to put on a stamp
I'll call and explain to the landlord
you say "what if he's mad?"
I think he'll probably understand
when he was our age I'm sure he did stuff like that
We are still young
We are still young
We are still so young
People say we should get a house
they say renting is for kids
but looking at our paychecks
there's no room for mortgages
She buys lots of pretty clothes
and I keep putting money in my car
but when she dresses up and we go for a drive
I guess that's who we really are
We are still young
We are still young
We are still so young
There's no food in the fridge
we get in a fight
about whose job that is
for half the night
Then at some point we start laughing
we go out to eat
forget to go shopping, come back home
watch TV and fall asleep
bills are piling up on the table
dishes are filling the sink
sometimes I worry we can't handle it all
ah, but then I think
We are still young
We are still young
We are still so young
We are still young
We are still young
We are still so so
It takes time to grow grow
we are still so so young

Been eating drive through
With all the traveling
The car smells like french fries
And clothes I forgot to bring in
Coffee spilled everywhere
I just let it soak in
Siren behind me
Missed a stop sign again
I guess
I haven't been taking very good care of myself
Unaware of myself
I haven't showered or shaved
In a number of days
Oh and it would be good for my health
If I could picture myself
With you
Smoke alarm sounding
Every meal I make
Through these thin walls I can hear
The neighbors complain
The carpet is stained
Holes in the plaster
Being apart from you
How am I not supposed to be a disaster
You can probably tell that I
Haven't been taking such good care
Not been aware of myself
I haven't showered or shaved
In a number of days
Oh but it would be good for my health
If I could just picture myself
With you
Oh I haven't been taking good care of myself
I've not been aware of myself
I haven't showered or shaved
In I don't know how many days
Oh but it would be good for my health
If I could picture myself
With you

A Whole Lot Going On

Ever since
I got her phone number the other day
I've been leaving messages on top of messages to say
I'd like to see you again someday
Every time
She picks up there's someone on the other line
But it's fine, I don't mind, I've got time
She must have a whole lot going on
How I dream
Of telling her just what she does to me
But I guess I just have to wait and see
She must have a whole lot going on
Now I'm sure
She's working two jobs
Taking care of her mom
And doing all the things she needs to do
Oh but I
Wish she knew how much that I
Just want to be with her
Doesn't matter
Doing laundry
Going shopping
Making food
But here I wait
In what you might call a pathetic state
Waiting for her to call me night and day
Ah, I guess she must just have a lot going on
She must have a whole lot
All I need is one shot now
Oh man she must just really really have a whole lot
Going on
